The ethnographical museum of Esso – the only ethnographical exhibition on Kamchatka!
Founded in 1982, the museum is located right in the middle of Esso, on the riverbanks of the river Uksitschan – „the hot water“ in the tongue of the indigenous people livning here.
The building was once built to represent the Cossack settlement and therefor the architecture imitates the Russian style of the late 17th century. Because of that, a picturesque tower defends the building and there is also a typical shed in the yard. Later, the chamber for the exhibition was built, as well as replica of a koryak house and storeroom.

Most of the exhibits have been collected during an ethnographical expedition to the settlement Hailino in the former autonomous koryak region. The goal was to gather authentic cultural items of the mythology of Koryaks and Tschukts. Further some extraordinary items are exhibited here:
- Items and relicts of Evenic shamanism
- Sacred Koryak items from the early 20th centruy

Not only does the museum offer the possibility to enjoy the works of Kamchatka’s and Magadan’s artists, you can also buy some. Knitworks, things carved of wood and bone or precious art made from pearls are offered.

In the yard of the museum, shows of the native dancing ensembles „Nulgur“, „Nurgenek“ or „Orjakan“ frequently take place, and they also can possibly be purchased.
